Radio: How did I end up in Wonderland?

I’ve been listening to radio since I was a child, has it really been that long? I remember when Howard Stern was just getting his start in radio before he went to internet radio. I remember listening to NPR pretty frequently whether it was BBC News, Prairie Home Companion or the late night Jazz shows. I even remember when Rover’s Morning Glory started and shaking my head wondering why. In other words I’ve been tuned in almost my whole life, small wonder I’m in broadcasting school.

The above audio is a fictional opening for a fictional radio station from an anime near and dear to my heart: Cowboy Bebop. It was also said anime that got me into Jazz, one of my all time favorite music genres. It was funny, when I first heard Radio Free Mars I remember my friends telling me I reminded them of the DJ on that album. I didn’t think much of it at the time but several years later here I am…funny how life sorts itself out doesn’t it? I guess it was meant to be, after all I’m am not only enjoying myself but I’m learning as well.

As I go further in this career path of mine I will take the time to remember where I came from. Just a bright eyed kid with big hopes and dreams. From wanting to be the next Walt Disney to the next Michael Symon, and now I’m just going to be me. A me that’s in radio, it’s not that I don’t want to try other mediums but I have more of a passion for radio then I do say television. I digress, at the end of the day I’m embracing everything that is broadcasting, now and into the future.
