Over a month ago I started off on an interesting module in school: Voice Tracking. To those of you who don’t know Voice Tracking is simply the recording of your voice to be played at a later date on the air but its made to appear that you’re live. They do this more often nowadays because it means they get more work done without someone having to be there. The cool thing with voice tracking is short of editing out dead air you don’t have to mess with it much. You can even leave in brief pauses of about 1/3 to a 1/2 second in order emphasize certain topics you discuss during the in between of the songs on the radio.
The above example is my own work that I did as part of a project. I had a lot of fun doing it and I can’t wait till I’m doing that in the real world. Although from what I know I may only end up doing an hour or two of work at a time. That’s because for all you record you’re only going to be at it for a couple hours, and get paid that many hours. So from the professionals I’ve talked to I would need at least a few studios worth of voice tracking just to make ends meet.
Still I can’t complain I love the broadcast business and this is what I’m going to school for, it’s just another aspect for me to master and take advantage of should the opportunity knock. I’m still about halfway through my schooling and have a lot to learn. But at the end of the day life is all about learning don’t you think?
